Mitch Landrieu, serving as the national co-chair of President Biden’s reelection campaign, expressed strong reservations about the possibility of former President Trump, currently the leading contender for the GOP presidential nomination, returning to the White House. In a recent interview on MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki,” Landrieu highlighted the gravity of the situation by pointing out that Trump is currently facing a staggering 91 felony counts across four distinct courts in the United States.
The former mayor, entrusted with the implementation of President Biden’s landmark infrastructure bill, stressed the unprecedented nature of a presidential candidate carrying such a heavy legal burden. He underscored the independence of the legal system in bringing these charges against Trump and insisted that no other individual, especially someone aspiring to the presidency, currently faces such a multitude of serious legal issues.
Landrieu went on to assert that Trump’s potential return to the presidency is nothing short of astonishing and, in his opinion, should not be entertained. He went so far as to declare that Trump should stay at least 100 miles away from the White House, emphasizing the severity of the legal challenges confronting the former president.
Moreover, Landrieu hinted at the Biden campaign’s strategy to focus on Trump’s legal woes during the upcoming election. Specifically, he pointed to the recent New York jury decision that ruled Trump owes $83.3 million to E. Jean Carroll for defamation. This suggests that the Biden team sees Trump’s legal troubles as a significant vulnerability that can be exploited during the election season.
As the Biden campaign gears up for what they anticipate to be a prolonged general election season, Landrieu’s comments provide insight into the narrative they intend to promote.
