Sources within Biden’s circle suggest that special counsel Robert Hur’s inquiry is not expected to result in criminal charges, as reported by Axios. However, the concern lies in the revelation of unflattering details and photographs that could inflict significant political harm.
This unease is somewhat ironic, considering that former President Donald Trump currently faces felony charges related to mishandling classified documents. When Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence was raided in August 2022, Biden openly criticized the former president’s perceived irresponsibility in handling such sensitive information.
However, Biden soon found himself entangled in a classified documents scandal when materials from his tenure as vice president surfaced at his Wilmington home and the Penn Biden Center think tank in Washington.
The Biden campaign is particularly anxious about the potential use of the investigation’s findings, along with any accompanying photos, by Trump to draw parallels with his own charges, creating a narrative of equivalency, as reported by Axios.
It is anticipated that Hur’s investigation, believed to be concluded, might be made public this week. Drawing a parallel, Trump’s investigation has already yielded released photos from the Mar-a-Lago raid, showcasing documents marked as “top secret” and boxes stored inside a bathroom. Given this precedent, Trump is likely to seize any opportunity to exploit photos from Biden’s investigation for political advantage.
Biden has sought to assure the public of the security of his home, emphasizing that his garage is a secure site. In January of the previous year, he stated, “my Corvette is in a locked garage. OK? So, it’s not like they’re sitting out in the street.”
