This is just plain sad.

A recent poll commissioned by Newsweek reveals that a significant portion of Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential election supporters are in favor of him withdrawing from the 2024 White House race. The survey, conducted by Redfield & Wilton Strategies and encompassing 1,500 eligible U.S. voters, discovered that 54 percent of those who voted for Biden in 2020 are inclined towards him exiting the upcoming presidential contest, while only 21 percent oppose this notion. Interestingly, this sentiment is more pronounced among individuals who voted Democrat in the previous election, with 45 percent supporting Biden’s withdrawal compared to 30 percent of the general public.

Concerns surrounding Biden’s age and mental agility, particularly in comparison to his potential rival, 77-year-old Donald Trump, have been emphasized by Republican critics. Both Biden and Trump demonstrated considerable success on ‘Super Tuesday,’ consolidating their positions as frontrunners for their respective parties’ nominations. Newsweek reached out to the White House press office and Joe Biden’s 2024 presidential campaign for comment but has yet to receive a response.

Participants in the survey were asked whether they would endorse or oppose Joe Biden terminating his campaign for the Democratic nomination in the upcoming presidential election. Results indicate that 25 percent of 2020 Biden voters strongly support his withdrawal, with an additional 29 percent expressing support. Conversely, only 9 percent are opposed, with another 12 percent strongly opposing this move.

Among those who voted for Trump in 2020, 27 percent strongly support Biden’s withdrawal, while 15 percent express support. Conversely, 10 percent oppose and 32 percent strongly oppose this action, suggesting that some Trump voters believe Biden’s candidacy would benefit their party’s electoral prospects.

Should Biden withdraw, the survey reveals a lack of consensus regarding who should be the Democratic Party’s nominee in 2024. Vice-President Kamala Harris leads with 15 percent support, followed by Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama at 10 percent each. However, 29 percent of respondents expressed uncertainty about their preferred nominee in such a scenario.

A recent Morning Consult survey suggests a tightening race between Biden and Trump, with Biden leading by a single point among registered voters. However, when other candidates are factored in, the two candidates are tied at 38 percent each.

Biden recently delivered his State of the Union address, where he criticized Trump’s foreign policy and handling of the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot. In response, Trump characterized Biden’s speech as divisive and filled with animosity.
