Liz Cheney Keep Attacking Republicans
In a recent exchange on X, formerly Twitter, former Representative Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) directed criticism towards former Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel for her involvement in endeavors to overturn the 2020 presidential election results, particularly in connection with former President Trump’s actions.
Cheney accused McDaniel of aiding Trump’s controversial attempts, including his alleged scheme to manipulate electoral votes and his pressure tactics on Michigan officials regarding certification. Emphasizing McDaniel’s dissemination of Trump’s falsehoods and her labeling of the January 6th events as “legitimate political discourse,” Cheney condemned her actions as complicity in criminality and moral degradation.
Cheney’s reproach followed McDaniel’s appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” where she addressed her previous statements regarding January 6th and distanced herself marginally from Trump’s stance. McDaniel, now a paid contributor for NBC News following her departure from the RNC chairmanship amidst internal party pressure, faced inquiries regarding Trump’s controversial remarks about the January 6th detainees, whom he labeled as “patriots” and vowed to pardon if re-elected.
During the interview, McDaniel expressed her disagreement with Trump’s position, stating that those convicted for attacking the Capitol should face the consequences. However, she clarified that as the RNC chair, she refrained from public dissent against Trump to maintain party unity, suggesting that she now feels freer to express her personal convictions.
Cheney’s critique echoes broader concerns about NBC’s decision to enlist McDaniel as a contributor. Critics, including “Morning Joe” hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, argued against McDaniel’s inclusion, asserting that while conservative Republican perspectives are essential for balanced coverage, McDaniel’s past actions undermine democratic principles. Brzezinski emphasized the importance of NBC reconsidering its choice, indicating that McDaniel won’t be invited as a guest on their show in her capacity as a paid contributor.
