Haley Still Getting Votes?
Despite withdrawing from the race nearly two months ago, former Republican presidential contender Nikki Haley garnered a surprising tally of over 150,000 votes in the Pennsylvania GOP primary held on Tuesday.
According to the latest update on Wednesday morning, Haley secured nearly 157,000 votes, constituting approximately 16.6 percent of the total count, with 90 percent of votes tabulated. Meanwhile, former President Trump maintained a commanding lead in the primary, clinching over 80 percent of the vote as per the latest figures. Consequently, he is set to claim all of Pennsylvania’s delegates in this winner-takes-all contest.
Haley emerged as the sole remaining challenger to Trump in the Republican primaries after a crowded field narrowed down to just two contenders by January. Despite her efforts, she failed to close the gap with Trump and exited the race following Super Tuesday in March.
Although Haley’s performance may not have altered the outcome of Trump’s victory in Pennsylvania, it could signal a potential concern for the upcoming general election. Pennsylvania holds significance as a crucial battleground state that could sway the outcome of the presidential race. Trump currently leads President Biden in the state by a narrow margin of 0.4 percent, highlighting the heightened importance of every vote cast.
Haley’s enduring support extends beyond Pennsylvania, as evidenced by her substantial vote counts in other states in recent weeks. Notably, she amassed over 77,000 votes in the Georgia primary shortly after suspending her campaign, followed by over 150,000 votes, or nearly 20 percent, in the Washington primary, and more than 110,000 votes in the Arizona primary. These figures underscore her continued influence and support base even after exiting the presidential race.
