They are posting billboards based on rumors. Insane.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is putting up 10 billboards around Milwaukee, highlighting former President Trump’s alleged comments referring to Milwaukee as a “horrible city.” According to the DNC, these billboards aim to draw attention to Trump’s remarks.
In response, Trump’s campaign clarified that his criticism was not directed at Milwaukee as a whole but rather at the crime issues within the city. Despite this clarification, Democratic strategists have leveraged Trump’s comments to criticize him, emphasizing Milwaukee’s importance as Wisconsin’s largest city and the venue for the upcoming Republican National Convention.
The billboards prominently display Trump’s face alongside the statement, “Milwaukee, where we are having our convention, is a horrible city,” attributed to “Donald J. Trump.” Additionally, they include a screenshot of a tweet from a Punchbowl News reporter, quoting Trump’s alleged remarks and emphasizing the phrase “is a horrible city.”
DNC spokesperson Addy Toevs commented that Trump has shown clear disdain for Wisconsin and its residents. Toevs pointed out that Milwaukee, which will host the RNC in July, was labeled a “horrible city” by Trump. She noted that Wisconsin played a pivotal role in the 2020 election by voting Trump out of office and electing President Biden. Toevs expressed confidence that Wisconsin voters would reject Trump again in the upcoming election, describing Trump as a sore loser whom Milwaukee residents are set to defeat once more.
In contrast, Dylan Johnson, a spokesperson for Trump’s campaign, dismissed the DNC’s actions as a desperate attempt to gain social media attention. Johnson emphasized that no reporters were present during Trump’s meeting with Republican lawmakers, suggesting that the remarks were misrepresented. He insisted that Trump was addressing issues related to violent crime and voter fraud in Milwaukee, not the city itself.
Representative Glenn Grothman (R-Wis.), who represents a district near Milwaukee, also defended Trump, stating that Trump’s comments were not a criticism of Milwaukee but a call for more Republican support in the area.
Trump’s visit to Capitol Hill on Thursday marked his first return since the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack. During this visit, he met with House Republicans in the morning and joined Senate Republicans for lunch later in the day.
