Latinos Voting For Trump?
Recent polling data from Axis and Ipsos reveals a notable shift in the favorability ratings of political figures among Latino voters in the United States. President Joe Biden, once enjoying relatively stable support, has seen a decline in favorability over the past year, while former President Donald Trump’s favorability has experienced an uptick.
The survey, part of a series conducted by Ipsos since 2021, indicates a decrease in Biden’s favorability among Latinos. Similarly, Vice President Kamala Harris has also witnessed a dip in her favorability ratings after a period of relative consistency.
In March 2024, only 41% of Latinos expressed a favorable opinion of President Biden, down from 47% in both June 2023 and October 2022. Likewise, Vice President Harris’s favorability has declined to 39% in March 2024, compared to 42% in both June 2023 and October 2022.
In contrast, Donald Trump has seen an increase in favorability among Latinos. From 27% in October 2022, his favorability rose to 29% in June 2023 and further to 32% in March 2024. Notably, Trump’s latest rating surpasses those of prominent political figures like California Governor Gavin Newsom (27%), Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (31%), and Texas Governor Greg Abbott (27%).
The survey also sheds light on the primary concerns of Latino voters. A majority (53%) are most troubled by inflation and the rising cost of living, followed by concerns about crime or gun violence (34%), and immigration (28%).
Conducted by Axios/Ipsos in collaboration with Telemundo US, the survey interviewed 1,012 Latinos across the United States from March 22 to March 28. The margin of error for the survey is approximately plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.
