Obama Insider Reveals Why Trump Can’t Be Removed
In a recent appearance on CNN, David Axelrod, a former adviser to President Barack Obama, expressed significant concerns about the efforts in various states to prevent former President Donald Trump from appearing on the 2024 presidential ballot. Axelrod acknowledged that such a move could potentially “rip the country apart,” emphasizing the substantial support Trump still enjoys among millions of voters.
The controversy revolves around decisions by Colorado’s Supreme Court and Maine’s secretary of state, declaring Trump ineligible for their respective state ballots. Similar lawsuits in other states seek the same outcome. Axelrod, despite his criticism of President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign, highlighted the strengthening of Trump’s position within the GOP, particularly citing four criminal indictments as factors that have surprisingly boosted Trump’s standing in the Republican primary.
Axelrod addressed the statements made by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, who expressed intentions to pardon Trump if he were convicted of a crime and they assumed the presidency. Axelrod acknowledged the political motivations behind such statements, catering to the Trump base, but also noted the potential implications of imprisoning a former president, which he believed would weigh heavily on the minds of the next president and sentencing judges if Trump were convicted.
Anticipating the U.S. Supreme Court’s involvement, Axelrod predicted a swift resolution that would likely leave Trump on the ballot. This perspective aligns with Axelrod’s recent analysis of a Wall Street Journal poll, where he characterized the record-low approval ratings for President Biden as a “very, very dark” point in his reelection campaign less than three weeks ago.
