Pence Tries To Sabotage Trump’s 2024 Run
In a notable departure from his former political ally, ex-Vice President Mike Pence expressed strong criticism of ex-President Donald Trump’s stance on abortion on a recent Monday, characterizing it as a “regression” in the protection of the right to life and a “betrayal” to those advocating against abortion.
Trump, who is anticipated to be the Republican nominee for the upcoming presidential election, asserted on the same day that abortion regulations should be left to individual states while also advocating for the preservation of in vitro fertilization rights.
Pence, who mounted a challenge against his former superior for the GOP presidential nomination this year, articulated his discontent in a post shared on X, stating, “President Trump’s shift on the Right to Life is a betrayal to the millions of pro-life Americans who supported him in 2016 and 2020.”
Highlighting the significance of the Trump-Pence Administration’s efforts in appointing and securing the confirmation of conservative justices, Pence emphasized their role in pushing Roe v. Wade towards historical obsolescence, thereby providing impetus for the pro-life movement to extend compassionate support to both women and unborn children.
Although Trump’s appointment of three Supreme Court justices was pivotal in nullifying the federal right to abortion as demonstrated in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization ruling in June 2022, the abortion issue remained a contentious subject during the 2022 midterm elections. Trump and others opined that a more moderate approach rather than advocating for stringent bans could have yielded better results for Republicans.
Pence reiterated that the Dobbs decision effectively transferred the abortion debate back to the purview of individual states and the American populace. However, he stressed the importance of federal legislation providing minimal protection for the unborn, a sentiment shared by a majority of Americans.
Expressing concern over the perceived reluctance of some Republican politicians to champion the cause of life, Pence urged boldness in speaking the truth and standing firm on the principle that human life commences at conception and warrants safeguarding from inception to demise.
Despite reports suggesting Trump’s inclination towards a negotiation aiming to appease both sides of the abortion debate, possibly advocating for a national ban post 15 weeks, Pence underscored the unwavering determination of anti-abortion Americans to advocate for the sanctity of life to be enshrined in the laws of every state.
Concluding his message, Pence affirmed the steadfast commitment of pro-life Americans to persist until the sanctity of life is reinstated as a fundamental tenet of American jurisprudence across all states.
