Reports suggest that McDaniel and former President Donald Trump have engaged in talks regarding her future, with a decision deferred until after South Carolina’s pivotal primary on February 24th.
Sources familiar with the matter reveal that while McDaniel hasn’t formally committed to resigning, internal deliberations within the GOP indicate a mounting pressure for change. Trump’s recent public remarks questioning McDaniel’s tenure have further intensified this scrutiny, prompting discussions between the two about the possibility of her departure.
According to The New York Times, McDaniel conveyed her intention to resign shortly following the conclusion of the South Carolina primary. A meeting described as amicable between Trump and McDaniel took place in Florida, during which they explored various scenarios, including her potential resignation, among other leadership adjustments within the RNC.
However, both parties agreed to postpone any conclusive decisions until after the outcome of the South Carolina primary, where Trump aims to solidify his dominance over the Republican field, particularly against Nikki Haley, a significant contender from the state.
RNC spokesperson Keith Schipper affirmed that the status quo remains unchanged and emphasized that any determinations regarding McDaniel’s position would be made post-South Carolina.
