Cheney Plotting On The GOP’s Downfall
Liz Cheney is actively working to dismantle Donald Trump’s political influence by embarking on a book tour, participating in major interviews, and sounding alarms about the potential dangers of his reelection, portraying it as a pathway to a menacing dictatorship.
Despite identifying as a conservative and proudly asserting a 93% voting record in favor of the former president during her tenure as a Wyoming congresswoman, Cheney has taken an unexpected turn. She now contends that the only way to avert a perceived catastrophe is by ensuring Democratic control of the House, with an implication that maintaining Democratic dominance in the White House and Senate would not be objectionable to her.
Her argument revolves around what she describes as a “plague of cowardice” infecting House and Senate Republicans, accusing them of complacency regarding Trump’s actions. Cheney, expressing her discontent with her former GOP colleagues, fervently advocates for defeating them and ushering in a new Democratic majority, a stance she has maintained since 2022, actively campaigning against conservative Republicans.
Examining Cheney’s concerns about a potential Trump dictatorship reveals a likelihood close to zero. Biden’s inauguration was peaceful, and Trump has not called for any forceful removal of the current president. Despite Cheney’s warnings of a coup, Trump, in an interview with conservative host Sean Hannity, outlined policy priorities, indicating a lack of interest in dictatorial ambitions.
While Cheney claims to maintain conservative views, her focus on preventing Trump’s return raises questions about her concerns regarding the Democratic agenda. Despite any personal reservations about Trump, many conservative Republicans acknowledge his achievements, including economic prosperity, prison reform, support for historically Black colleges, and energy independence through the oil and natural gas industry.
Cheney’s willingness to overlook these conservative victories in favor of challenging Trump’s election stance and her active fundraising efforts to oust Republicans who disagree with her reveal a departure from the conservative principles she claims to uphold.
Cheney’s role in the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol is also questioned. Despite her assertion of conducting a nonpartisan investigation, her approach appears biased, echoing concerns raised by liberal publications such as The Washington Post and The New York Times.
Criticism of Trump’s alleged involvement in seditious conspiracy lacks evidential support, with even The Wall Street Journal highlighting the absence of proof. Cheney’s focus on pursuing legal actions against Trump without substantial evidence raises doubts about her commitment to conservative values, particularly as she advocates surrendering the Republican beachhead in the House to the Democrats.
