Top Trump Official Ready For Jail
Steve Bannon, a former adviser to Donald Trump, has expressed his readiness to serve time in prison as what he terms a “political prisoner,” reflecting on his past military service in the U.S. Navy.
Bannon, who currently hosts the War Room podcast, was recently ordered to surrender by July 1 to serve a four-month prison sentence. While he plans to appeal this decision, he appeared on Tucker Carlson’s show on X to discuss his stance on potentially serving time behind bars.
Bannon recalled his service in the Navy during his twenties, where he spent nearly four years aboard a Navy destroyer in various regions, including the North-Arabian Sea, Persian Gulf, Western Pacific, and South China Sea. He compared this past service to his current situation, saying, “In my 20s, I served my country on a Navy destroyer, and in my 70s, I’ll serve my country in a federal prison. It doesn’t make any difference for me, it won’t change my life one way. I don’t have a big social agenda. I’m dedicated to this work of saving my country, and if I have to be a political prisoner, I’ll be a political prisoner.”
When asked about how he plans to spend his time in prison, Bannon mentioned that he engages in various spiritual exercises from the Catholic Church. Additionally, he plans to read extensively and study topics that interest him.
Bannon intends to remain in contact with his team as much as prison regulations allow, ensuring that his work continues uninterrupted. “I’m happy to work 20 hours a day, I’ve got nothing else in my life happening except this, so it’s not going to stop, and we’ll just continue to push forward,” he stated. He emphasized that his team must maintain the quality and impact of their work in his absence, saying, “There can’t be one drop in quality. There can’t be one drop in audience participation or impact, so it’s on my team to do and I’ll hopefully be in communication with those guys, but I’m very confident. We’ve built a team up here that will continue on like I tell them, it’s next man up.”
Bannon has filed an emergency request to delay his prison reporting date, with his attorney emphasizing his determination to “vigorously pursue his remaining appeals” in the case. He hopes for a decision on this request by June 18.
Additionally, Bannon has warned of repercussions for prosecutors involved in legal actions against former President Donald Trump during this election cycle. Following Trump’s recent conviction on 34 counts in his hush money trial, Bannon has asserted that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg “should be, and will be, jailed.”
