Biden To Use Trump’s Legal Woes Against Him
NBC News has reported that a super PAC backing President Joe Biden’s bid for reelection is poised to launch a substantial $40 million advertising campaign. The aim of this initiative is to spotlight the legal troubles facing former President Donald Trump.
Unite the Country, the super PAC in question, is gearing up to air digital and television ads in swing states. Their objective is to sway moderate and conservative-leaning voters who harbor doubts about Trump or remain undecided about supporting his candidacy.
According to Unite the Country’s director, Steve Schale, this particular segment of the electorate holds significant sway as critical swing voters. Polling conducted across several swing states, including Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, revealed a notable portion of voters with unfavorable views of both Biden and Trump. Many of these individuals had previously voted for Trump in 2016 but refrained from doing so in 2020.
Schale emphasized that while these voters would typically lean towards supporting Trump, their current hesitancy stems from concerns about the erosion of democratic principles.
However, some Republican analysts have cast doubt on the effectiveness of centering the campaign on Trump’s legal woes. Adam Geller, a GOP pollster who has previously worked for Trump but is not affiliated with his 2024 campaign, pointed out that in the 2020 election, Biden was largely perceived as a Trump alternative. He argued that Biden’s record, now more pronounced, might not be favorable given his approval ratings.
Geller emphasized that despite Trump’s legal challenges, voters ultimately base their decisions on the performance of the incumbent administration.
